Located on Aytoun Street in the heart of Manchester, Great North Pie Co is a must-visit destination for lovers of hearty English fare, especially those with a passion for perfectly crafted pies. This charming English restaurant invites you to indulge in an authentic culinary experience that celebrates traditional British comfort food elevated with care and skill.
Step inside to find a warm and inviting atmosphere where rustic charm meets casual sophistication. The interior is cozy and welcoming, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed lunch or a leisurely dinner. You can also choose to dine in their beautiful garden seating area, a verdant oasis in the city, which only adds to the special ambiance highlighted by friendly and attentive service.
The star of the menu, unsurprisingly, is their diverse selection of pies, each one lovingly baked to golden perfection. Whether you’re craving the rich and tender Beef and Ale Pie served with mash and chips, the creamy indulgence of the Lancashire Cheese Pie with mash and onion gravy, or the soulful warmth of the Braised Beef Pie drenched in luscious gravy, every bite delivers an explosion of deep, savory flavors that comfort the soul. The accompanying sides such as mushy garden peas, fluffy mash, and expertly cooked chips round out the experience, creating a plate that is both filling and satisfying.
Beyond pies, the menu offers delightful surprises like the Chicken Pot Pie and the unique Flan and Onion Soup, catering to a variety of palates without compromising on tradition. For dessert, try the classic Sticky Toffee Pudding or the impeccably balanced Bread Pudding — sweet endings that are indulgent yet never overpowering.
To complement your meal, a thoughtfully curated drink selection is at your disposal. From the sparkling crispness of the Follo Prosecco Spumante Extra Dry to the rich notes of Camina Cabernet Sauvignon from Spain, and refreshing spritz cocktails like the Aperol Spritz or Blackberry Spritz, each sip harmonizes beautifully with the robust flavors of the food.
Patrons rave about the genuine warmth and kindness of the staff, with several noting their detailed knowledge and attentive recommendations that make each visit feel personalized and special. One guest from Japan expressed heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional hospitality that made their experience memorable and left them eager to return. Another enthusiastic diner praised the “beautiful tender beef” and “perfect home-cooked chips,” applauding the spot as a delightful discovery tucked away in a peaceful garden setting.
Great North Pie Co perfectly balances affordability, quality, and an inviting atmosphere, making it a standout choice for anyone craving true English pie cuisine. Whether you’re a local or just passing through Manchester, be prepared to experience a deeply satisfying meal that warms your heart and leaves you planning your next visit before you even finish your plate.
We, a Japanese couple, had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The staff were very kind to us tourists, and the food was absolutely delicious, leaving us completely impressed! We'd like to thank the two lovely female staff members who gave us detailed information about the Sunday roast! We'll definitely visit again when we move to the UK in a few years!
Beef and ale pie (a very full pie of beautiful tender beef), cauliflower cheese (best I’ve ever had!), chips (home cooked and perfect) and the gravy are not to be missed out on! You won’t regret it! What a beautiful spot to stumble across, in a gorgeous green garden space, with inside and outside seating. The staff were so friendly, nothing being too much, the lovely ladies working recommended some places to visit, as my first time in Manchester - writing a list to take away - it made my trip! A must visit for good vibes, good pie and a nice energy!
This place was close to our hotel and had such a stellar reviews, we thought it’d be appropriate for our last lunch in the UK. We walked in and they had many tables available (granted we were there for a REALLY late lunch). The service was friendly and fast. The pie prices are hard to beat, but you have to order the gravies separately. We got their beef and ale pie, truly amazing, and the chicken pie. We also got both their onion gravy and curry and both were delicious. However, the absolute star was the humble mushy peas! It was one of the best things we had during our entire trip. If not for the great pies and prices, just for the peas this place is worth a visit.
Not an exaggeration to say that our experience at Great North Pie Co. was inly positive. The beef pie was so delicious and the pea mash tasted incredible. The sticky toffee pudding was also beautiful and not too sweet. Staff were so friendly and the interior of the restaurant was warm and comfortable . The prices are also very reasonable. Would 100% recommend!
Quite simply, a fantastic pie. Served with enough gravy to drown your sorrows and the mash was lovely too. There's nothing not to like, and I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town
It is a very lovely place. Small inside, but there is also the possibility to sit outside. Even when it was raining, the spot is dry and invited to stay a little. The beer is very nice. I had the Track Pale Ale. The pies are at a very good portion and in combination with mash and the gravy it is a full tasty meal. If you choose to go there, you will have a great pie.
Completely blown away by how good this place is. The food is fantastic - as I told the waitress, it was like a religious experience. If you are from the south and think you have eaten a good pie before, you haven't until you have a Great North Pie. A word for the staff too who were all excellent - in a world of criticism about the state of hospitality staff, The Great North Pie team set the gold standard. Couldn't recommend it more, loved it.
We had a lovely time here, the food was absolutely delicious. One star deducted as the website was a little confusing and I'd liked to have made a reservation but couldn't figure out how, so we ended up sat outside, and also because they require that you order sides separately, meaning they are very big, I feel they should offer a meal option, for example a pie with mash/peas/gravy, so the peas aren't so huge, since I like them but the other member of my party didn't, so we couldn't share and food went to waste (her cauliflower cheese, too).
